Observation Site Description

Observation Site Description

Location: Eaton Canyon
Date: October 29, 2012

The area that we observed was very dry. We sat upon a giant log. The bark on the log was very crumbly and fell off when stepped on. On the ground we observed an abundance of dry dirt and dead leaves. We also saw plenty of holes in the ground, possibly from spiders, snakes, or rodents. We did not, however, see anything come out of the holes. It was pretty hot but there was a slight breeze. The sky was clear with the exception of a few small clouds. We could hear birds singing and also the rustling of the dead leaves on the ground. We found a pile of feathers that possibly came from a recently eaten bird. We also were able to find to owl pellet. We observed a lot of dead plants in our area. Along the ground, and occasionally on my shoes, red ants crawled. We did not see any animals while we were seated and observing. It was only after we had gotten up to head back to the bus that we ran into a deer (we didnt literally have a physical collision with a deer). Unfortunately, we failed to get any usable pictures or video recordings of the deer.
